The Music of Caravaggio

The Music of Caravaggio

2022, date to be defined, Monte Santa Maria Tiberina

The cultural heritage of Monte Santa Maria Tiberina is strongly characterized by the figure of Caravaggio, who thanks to the benevolence of Cardinal Bourbon del Monte was able to create some of his most admirable works.

Reflection of the cultured life that surrounded Caravaggio are the canvases with a musical subject, which show Cardinal Del Monte's interests in music and singing; among these "I musici", painted expressly for the Cardinal and now at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, and "the Lute Player", performed in two versions, one for Del Monte and one for Giustiniani, respectively at the Metropolitan in New York and at the Hermitage in St. Petersburg. The link between Monte Santa Maria Tiberina, Caravaggio and music is strong and indisputable.

The music of Caravaggio is a masterclass program for international students, offering lutherie and music courses held in Monte Santa Maria Tiberina by professional luthiers and musicians. The program will include exhibitions and concerts open to public that will enliven the tiny village of Monte Santa Maria Tiberina over the duration of the courses.
